Trance music, a genre that emerged from the electronic dance music (EDM) scene in the early 1990s, is more than just a style of music—it’s an experience. Known for its repetitive melodic phrases, uplifting rhythms, and a tempo typically ranging from 127 to 140 beats per minute, trance music is designed to create a euphoric and hypnotic state in its listeners.
Trance-Like State
The genre’s name itself hints at its purpose: to induce a “trance-like” state, where the mind is free to wander, and the body is driven by the rhythm. Unlike other EDM genres, trance often focuses on melody, layering sounds that build in intensity, leading to climactic moments that are both emotionally and physically powerful. Tracks frequently feature long, sweeping breakdowns, and ethereal, otherworldly sounds that evoke feelings of transcendence and unity.
Trance music has a global following, with massive festivals and events dedicated to the genre, such as A State of Trance (ASOT) and Dreamstate. DJs and producers like Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, and Paul van Dyk have become icons in the trance community, pushing the boundaries of what the genre can achieve.
An Escape To A World
Whether you’re on a dance floor surrounded by thousands of fellow trance enthusiasts or listening alone with your headphones, trance music offers an escape, a journey into a world where sound becomes emotion, and rhythm becomes a heartbeat. It’s more than just music; it’s a state of mind.
I’ve been a listener of trance music for well over a decade now and I have to say, it has been an enjoyable journey.
The first time I heard it, was when I was young and I heard Ferry Corsten on my headphones. That moment was incredible, I really didn’t expect to be struck by the euphoria of the music like that.
I was using an old mp3 player and some headphone plugs probably.
There’s not too many writers out there in the niche of trance music, so I should probably be the first. Or, I guess, there might be a few, but I think there’s a real gap in the market for the discussion of trance music, and I’m actually pretty experienced in the field, having been a listener for 15 years and a producer for something like 4 years now.
So maybe I’ve got something valuable to add to the conversation if we’re discussing trance music. So this moment of writing this for me is actually glorious because blogs are really good for example for interviews and marketing a blog shouldn’t be too difficult, to be honest.
Trance Music Blog?
So I think this world needs more music blogs because they’re really interesting, so maybe I should write a lot more about music and maybe do some writing on albums and talk about musicians and that kind of stuff.
‘Cause I’ve been looking for new topics to write about and that really is one big thing that I’ve been thinking of is “What should I write about?”.
Trance music is a genre that has consistently evolved, embracing various subgenres like uplifting trance, progressive trance, and psytrance, each offering its unique spin on the core elements that define trance. Uplifting trance, for example, emphasizes emotional melodies and euphoric build-ups, often accompanied by soaring synths and epic breakdowns that lift the spirit. Progressive trance, on the other hand, takes a more subtle approach, focusing on gradual development, deep grooves, and a journey-like progression that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.
One of the key aspects of trance music is its ability to bring people together. At trance festivals and events, the sense of community is palpable, with fans bonding over their shared love for the music and the emotional experiences it brings. The music serves as a universal language, breaking down barriers and creating connections that transcend cultural and geographical boundaries.
In recent years, trance has seen a resurgence, with new artists emerging and classic sounds being revisited and revitalized. This resurgence has brought a fresh wave of creativity to the genre, blending traditional trance elements with modern production techniques and influences from other genres. As a result, trance continues to evolve, remaining relevant and resonant with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Whether you’re a seasoned trance enthusiast or new to the genre, there’s always something new to discover in the world of trance music. From the deep, driving beats to the soaring melodies, trance offers an immersive experience that touches the soul and ignites the imagination. It’s a genre that invites you to lose yourself in the music, to feel the rhythm in your bones, and to find a sense of freedom and connection that is truly unique.
Artist Interviews?
Would be totally interesting to interview people, perhaps artists and listeners alike and talk. So yeah, that’s what this publication will look like in the future.
