Making Movies Is Zen Archery

It takes vision. You have to see the target.

There is a lot of risk. You have to hit the target.

You have to think quick.

There might be 100 people involved in making a movie. Everyone needs money for food for their people.

Imagine organizing 100 people to fly to a place to film the movie. You’re paying everyone a bunch. There’s a deadline to finish the film. You have to hit the target each time and every miss is costing time.

Maybe someone gets sick during the filming.

The project has to be finished or everyone loses their lunch money.

100 people must all act harmoniously and everyone has to co-operate and be aware of the process.

What if the food delivery fails and there is no food and there’s a lot of tension? A rumor is spread that someone wanted to steal the food.

So the actors must know what to do and there might be 40 actors as in Game of Thrones perhaps or Lord of the Rings? Maybe 40 camera crew people and make up and clothing and FX and editing and negotiating for the publishing and marketing!

And it takes physical strength often to travel and complete the shots. The script must be brilliant also and acting impeccable.

And there is of course like 100 people working on it full time for their food and living costs and beyond. So there can be no failure.

It must be a commercial hit too or it’s a loss in profit and the sequel can not be funded if a camera br
