The Applications Necessary

To write a book I would go ahead and get Scrivener. To me it’s the very best writing app out there. It has proper functions for research and outlining and formatting the book and the output of the app will just blow your mind. It is fully equipped for any kind of writing project you might want to conceive of.

Write Something Daily

I would get started off my writing something daily. Even if it’s just a few sentences up to a thousand words or even a bigger amount. I’ve heard of writers writing up to 5000 words per day and that will get a book finished in no time. Decide on a word count and length of book that you would like to achieve.

A book could be anything from 7 thousand words which would be a short story up to even 100 thousand words or more which would be a lengthy novel already.

So decide on your goal and start chipping towards it. It will be an investment of your time and effort, but as the saying goes, the thank you stands at the end.

For a cool cover art design you might want to use an app such as Affinity. You can either purchase the cover art or create your own in Affinity. Just be sure to check out the size of your book which is dictated by your publishing options.

So you want to get the size of the printer right, what you’re going for. Remember, when creating your own book cover, you have to create both pages at the same time so be sure to know your size one hundred percent correct.

For the sake of this tutorial we will be working with a size of 6×9 inches. Here’s how to create the cover art in Affinity Publisher. Use a DPI of 300 for print products always.

Now you’ve chosen the size. Now, press Create. A new page opens.

Click and open. Now one more thing.

Click on Designer Persona. The important thing is to now have two pages of the size of your book open. Now you can design you book cover.

Now go to File –> Export –> PDF

In Scrivener Now

Just press File –> New Project –> All –> Blank

Now you’ve got a blank slate to begin writing in. Now go wild and finish your book. If you write 1000 words per day, in 30 days you will have a 30k word book which is quite nice.

When you’re finished, just press File –> Compile and choose your book size Paperback 6×9 and Compile For: PDF

That’s it. You’ve got your draft going on for yourself. Congratulations for being a published author now!

Now you’re ready to publish and you can for example use Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing to get started. It’s pretty straightforward to use.
