Love Is Worship of God

This is a theme in Sufi Mysticism and I am currently listening to a podcast about it and I decided to take notes on it.

So we are servants of God and in a loving relationship with God.

That means that we love God and God loves us.

Rumi for example writes a lot about Love from the Islamic perspective.

I’m very interested in religions these days and Filip always delivers the best content in his channel

Ibn Arabi is one of my favorites also but I’ve yet to read his books on Unity of Being.

So Love is an important topic in Sufism and that is super interesting to me.

When I love him, I am the hearing with which He hears, the eyesight with which He sees, the hand with which He holds, and the foot with which He walks.

Prayers

All of reality is based on Love.

I was a hidden treasure, and I love to be known, so I created the world to be known.

-God

God loves us and we love God. That is the relationship that we have with God. That is to be annihilated.

Love, Beloved and Lover

The purpose of the human being is to Love God and purify the Soul, to clean the mirror of the heart.

In that moment the human realizes that He or She is Love.

God as the beloved. As He is in relationship to us.

In that higher state we realize that God is Love.

Always Moving Towards God

So be always moving towards God and returning to Him constantly.

Reality is created again every moment, just like we breathe in and out.

Whether you know it or not, you’re a lover of God.

Everything is a lover of God. Everything is a reflection of God.

None but God is loved in the existing things.

The Universe is all The Lover and The Beloved.

You are the cloud that’s veiling your own sun.

Ecstasy and Intoxication

So what’s the difference between the two? They definitely have similar qualities to them also. Both related to consciousness of God.

So God makes us Ecstatic and Intoxicated?

In English there’s one word for Love.

Everything is made of Love.

Great Talk By These Guys

I really am enjoying this talk thus far. I’ve had a long lasting interest in the Sufi tradition and I think it’s a very cool way to relate with the world, through the lens of this beautiful Islamic tradition.

The best thing about Sufism is obviously the guys dancing in those dresses. Makes me really want to participate in one of those events going further.

God’s Love is an important concept and view to me and it infuses my life with a newfound energy and faith.

A Lover of Poetry

I definitely love poetry as much as these guys and I think some of those legendary Sufi poets are really worth the read, especially Rumi and Ibn Arabi, who was called the Greatest Master.

Also the comparison between God and wine is a great one. To see God like a fine bottle of wine is so true.

To be a lover of God is to be a lover of all kinds of things. To treat God as your beloved is to treat existence through a lens of Love.

So remember to love your life and infuse with the spirit of God through breathing.

A Divine Revelation

I have had a divine revelation about this subject and I will be writing about it more extensively in the future.

The problem sometimes is communication about these topics is hard and I like how the Sufi’s use the word for “tasting” in relation to God and how if you’ve never tasted chocolate, it might be hard to know what it’s like if someone is trying to explain it to you.

That’s so relatable in life in general, that we have to experience things directly for ourselves.

It’s one thing to talk about God’s Love and one thing to experience it.

I’ve had some experiences of it one of which made me tear up when I was doing my darkness retreat just a couple years back in my apartment. I realized the profound selfless nature of God and how we humans are like His children.

Nothing beats being God’s child. It’s the most awesome freedom you can think of.

To know that we are loved unconditionally is a honor.

What I’m Trying To Say Is

So I think one way to experience God would be to dance and have a great time and meditate when full of joy. That’s one technique.

To walk closer to that which makes us feel alive is another saying, I believer from the Sufi tradition, from Hafez, if I recall correctly.

Meditation can be great and there’s also the saying that “Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation”.

That makes sense. In a state of deep silence we can become more aware of the subtle aspects of reality and ourselves, and one of God’s names in Islam is “The Subtle”.

For example being in silence every day can be a method to become more connected to the innate joy of our lives and it can really help us quiet our minds which tends to make us naturally joyful, less stressed and more present.

Live Wild And Free

I think to be a mystic is to live free, and to live a wild life. A life with the gas pedal that is pushed to it’s limit.

It’s to dance in the moonlight. It’s to go on a hike or a pilgrimage to find God.

It’s to create the most beautiful and vulnerable art that you’re able to create.

It’s to laugh at the absurdity of reality.

To live a wild life.

So may we all be liberated in this lifetime and all others and become aware of ourselves as Love, God and Truth.
