Let’s talk about creating one’s Magnum Opus as quickly as possible. There’s this idea about masterworks that they take years, but actually Rainer Maria Rilke wrote one of his works called Sonnets To Orpheus in just 3 days and nights, apparently.
To me, The Magnum Opus is a humorous subject. It immediately makes me think of The Divine Comedy by Dante. Although I haven’t yet read the book.
Need to put it on my reading list however.
Let’s Dive In
So the, or a Magnus Opus is like Latin or something and it means something like a great work or so.
So I am here to make the argument that you can create your Magnum Opus right away, without anybody see you while you do it.
This idea is not meant to put pressure onto you to perform better or “make something better than usual”
Maybe you even want to drop the idea immediately of creating your magnum opus and just create something.
For example I consider this piece of art to be my Magnum Opus right now and it wasn’t any particularly special session to create it or anything like that, just a normal session of creation of art.
But it came out really nicely so I think it’s my Magnum Opus or one of them, at least.
Art In Motion
This brings us to talk about art and how it’s really something that every child is capable of. We should not think down on ourselves and think that our art is bad, that is simply not true.
To create your Magnum Opus is to express aesthetics and artistry in a way that is comfortable to you.
Like said, Rainer Maria Rilke produced what is considered his best work in 3 days and nights.
So it doesn’t have to take years to produce something good. You can write down one sentence or choose a good color, or an instrument, and you’re halfway finished.
I don’t know, something about the idea of creating something magnificent in the following 3 days and nights is very inspiring to me.
3 Days And Nights
It reminds me of this idea of being really focused on your art and staying focused. It’s actually somewhat difficult for me sometimes to focus for long periods of time and trying to write for example 2000 words can take some effort.
So these are some of my latest works which I am super proud of. When starting to create digital art I never thought that I could make something that looked this nice. So I really like how these ended up looking like.
I am considering making these into posters. They will be a nice add to the collection.
Art For Relaxation
I believe that art should be created for relaxation purposes. We can consciously relax while writing for example, focusing on our breathing and making it slower and deeper. If we continue this for a few minutes, we should already be in a calm space in our bodies and minds.
There is an aesthetic to relaxation. For example if you’re a vocalist, there is an effortlessness to singing well. This is the idea that I am mostly trying to communicate here.
So how can we really lean into the relaxation and be center whilst we’re creating? This idea is interesting to me for a few reasons.
- Relaxation is awesome
- Creating and relaxing at the same time sounds cool
Slowing down helps and taking a few deep breaths and being gentle with yourself.
Don’t Force It Always
Sometimes forcing it can be a good strategy and at other times it’s not necessary. There might be somewhat of a dilemma around work for example – should we do it if we feel like it or not?
They say that a professional works even if he or she doesn’t feel like it, but that idea can lead us to burn out if we take it too seriously.
So finding a correct balance is indeed important and this too can be artistically expressed.
So yeah. That’s just a quick take on being artistic and the beauty of it. I hope this helps and can be inspiring for you in your next art project.
