Tune of the Week

Tune of the Week is my new weekly series where I discuss some of the best music out there.

Welcome to this addition on my latest series which is Tune of the Week. Stay tuned every Saturday, brought to you by arthandel.com.

This week we are heavy in the Trance and Progressive House territory. I really enjoyed these 3 tracks in particular in my listenings.

Beauty Especial

So what makes these three songs so beautiful? It's no easy question to answer. Some of my friends over on EDMProd.com would be doing a track breakdown on these and I've seen them recreate tracks like this. I have no idea how to learn that skill. It would be a honor to recreate music that is this good.

These three songs are all by creators who are committed to their field for years. Just a nice example of where music can take.

Chaos Theory Picasso Style Tribal African Scandinavian

Savage Creativity

Roman Messer has been on fire lately, as the track shows. The song Lost & Found (Breakbeat Remix) will leave one wanting more.

The track is thus chosen as the Tune of the Week. Really happy with this one. Call me weird, but one thing I learned from Rick Beato is listening to one song all the time. Like repeating it 25 times at least.

The Essence of Trance

I feel this track is trance in it's essence. What can I say, it's euphoric and uplifting and puts you in a great mood. The sing-along value really is there.

Songs like these are the reason why I make EDM too. So, what are the production aspects of making such music?

From A Production Point of View (Lost & Found)

These songs all have something in common. Let's list some common factors for songwriters, for example. These songs have a great sense of arrangement. They are well arranged to sections of a song. We can make a map of it. Clearly Lost & Found has a long introductionary part to it, and it builds up towards a great point of hype. The intro section features vocals and a piano, along with drums. Afterwards we have a synthesizer part playing, which is mixed with a vocal part after alond with drums and bass. Early on in the verse we can hear there's also some sub bass playing.

Composing a song like this is comparable to completing a puzzle. Different elements are stacked upon each other. In the breakdown section there's vocals and piano playing and in the B part (of the breakdown) there's also sub bass introduced for ear bliss. The little pause at the end of the pre-chorus(breakdown) sets the mood for the melodic drop section which is using the same sub bass as before.

Here's a list of different instruments used for the track;

Drums (Kick, Hihat, Snare, Some kind of extra percussion)

Piano

Synthesizer (Lead Synth)

Impact FX, some white noise

Sub Bass

The verse is composed of drums, sub bass, vocals. The vocals and the drums are setting the mood for the rest of the record with bass for increased interest. The synthesizer introduced in the drop is the highest hype instrument used for the song and thus introduced at the very peak of the track.

According to my ear there's one bassline in the track and probably is a sine wave with a second oscillator with a low pass filter with a little bit of compression in there, maybe from the mastering chain or maybe used on the bass track.

So just to recap; drums for danceability, piano for the melodic breakdown part, awesome vocals. lead synth for the drop for hype and ear candy. Sub bass in the verse, breakdown and build up along with the drop.

The Magic Behind The Sound of Goodbye (Sadrican 2026 Remix)

The Sound of Goodbye (Sadrican 2026 Remix)

So this one is featuring a well known vocal hook written by Armin van Buuren (I would guess he wrote the vocal).

There is a drum part (mix-in) before the breakdown which has a piano chord pattern along with vocals.

It seems like the chords are playing also with the vocal in the drop, as the minimal bass leaves some space in the mix.

The melodic notes of the track seem to be following the chords and they might have some shared notes, with two aspects - the piano melody and the chords which are played on top of each other.

I am especially liking the two distinct basses or are there even three basses on this one? There's a rolling bassline along with some sort of bass stabs in the low mids and mids introduced on some parts and finally a reese to finish off the phrase.

I hope all of this is making sense. To create your own unique versions featuring the vibe of these tracks comes down to some key points, mainly this -

Arrangement of BPM around 134 usually in the minor keys of F, F# , G, G#. Those keys often work well for trance music.

Wide Awake (Without You)

Wide Awake (Without You)

And in this one we can see also the same songwriting and arrangement techique, there are two verses which are followed by the chorus sections which is the highest energy part of the song.

Another well produced, arranged and mixed song. When I am in the studio I tend to flesh out an arragement either in my mind or in the DAW itself using blank midi notes on their own track which just has empty midi notes and names of the each part.

Three Great Songs

All in all, that's my take on these songs from a producer's point of view. I hope this has been helpful to you and if you're a music maker or in any creative field, these references can be great in your own productions.

Otherwise, they are great to dance to and for me they are play on repeat material. That's what Tune of the Week is all about.

Stickman Dancing To Trance

If you are looking for the freshest music every week, Tune of the Week by arthandel.

Other than that, arthandel digital art store should be launching soon. It's still a work in progress and is not fully functional yet.

I just had to post it for some reason. I am bad at waiting the longest time for releasing my stuff out there.

Stay tuned next time for Tune of the Week. The comment section should be working now, feel free to leave your thoughts there.

Stay in the shadows...
